I am a Londoner by adoption who suffers from the hyperactivity of lazies, which in non-medical jargon means I have a compulsive tendency to be constantly busy doing something without ever getting anywhere. The title Peter O’Toole chose for his autobiography, Loitering with Intent, resonates strongly with me. I spent my youth assuming that I would eventually become a painter while taking, for reasons still unclear to the scholars, all the least sensible detours. Following where my studies had naturally led me, I worked for a while in an architecture firm. Shortly after, encouraged by a fortunate encounter, I stepped into the film industry through animation. The transition felt more seamless than it might appear.
My filmography as animator and animation supervisor includes, among other titles, Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are, Aardman’s Arthur Christmas, the BAFTA-nominated documentary Listen to Me Marlon, and the VFX Oscar-winning Avatar and Gravity. I collaborated as VFX consultant with director Paolo Sorrentino on Youth and I was Head of Animation at Passion Pictures for over a decade, leading the animation department across a wide range of commercial and independent projects. As a filmmaker, I wrote and directed the live-action short film Brave Naked.
